Full Swing [You Got To Go]

October 2, 2011 Leave a comment

I didn’t mean to leave my blog idle for so long. It doesn’t seem as if much time has passed since my last entry that its hard to believe its October already. This semester is different from semesters passed in that my only obligation is school, as opposed to previous semesters where I would have to balance work and school and going out. I’m so close to graduating that I just decided to go all out. My goal this semester is to make all A’s and currently I’m realistically projecting I’ll make at least 3x A’s.

To help myself, I deactivated my Facebook. For the first week I really wanted to check it but now I’m over the withdrawl. I really like not having it. Even though I’m not as connected to everyone, the extra time that I would have spent on there is adding to my productivity.

Part (most?) of the stress from school is coming from my senior design class. Senior design is basically a huge 6 month project that tests all of your skills from previous engineering classes and forces you to become well rounded. I guess you could say I’m enjoying rising up to the challenge. My group’s senior design mechanical engineering project is a joint project with civil engineers. Our team is in charge of designing the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air condition) and plumbing systems for the building. It’s so much more work than it sounds like.

This semester hasn’t been without its highlights though. I saw Tiesto and Porter Robinson on Sept 27th in Tallahassee. The show was awesome. Tiesto dropped some of his (I’m assuming) new unreleased tracks which brought down the house. In related news, I BOUGHT MY TICKETS FOR ULTRA #14 (MARCH, 2012)!! Although expensive, It was the same amount I paid last year for the general admission tickets for three days. Just another incentive to get through this semester!

Summer Almost Over [Levels]

August 1, 2011 Leave a comment

It has been a busy and eventful summer indeed. I’ve thought about updating my blog a few times since the last time I’ve posted but its been pretty hectic. Ive been working 50 hours a week (including weekends) and also trips to Tampa and Jacksonville.

I’m slowly getting better at off camera flash. I’m planning on by the end of the year having some awesome new equipment (D800 maybe?? 😀 ). I received a wedding inquiry about two weeks ago to photograph a wedding. Upon hearing that the wedding was occurring the weekend of Ultra 14 (last weekend in March) I promptly turned it down. If there is one thing I look forward to every year, its Ultra, and I’m not about to give that up!

All I really have to share for now are pictures, so enjoy. 🙂

Work Hard, Play Hard [Mush, Mush]

July 6, 2011 Leave a comment

It’s been almost a month since I’ve last blogged. Work and working on editing pictures from Eureca’s wedding has had me ridiculously busy.

Happy Independence Day by the way. Work gives me a paid day off which is why I have time to write this. I just recently finished designing the wedding album for Eureca and Ezra on Friday, then this Saturday [7/2/2011] I shot Riza and Jonah’s wedding. It was a beautiful, traditional ceremony. Here are a few pictures:

Sarasota [Believe]

June 12, 2011 1 comment

I haven’t done a regular update in a while so here goes. I’ll keep it short and sweet. I moved from Tampa to Sarasota about a week ago to be closer to work. My commute time has drop drastically from around an hour and 15 minutes to bout 15 minutes. So it saves me about two hours each day and hundreds in gas. The place here in Sarasota is nice. Props to my friend Kawelo for hooking me up.

Since I’ve moved, nothing else has really changed. All I do really is go to work and then go back to the apartment. I’ll do some exploring later on though. Today I did some cleaning around the place. Here’s a pic of my current set up. The bed by the window on the right is Ervin’s bed. He had to make the same commute from Tampa to Sarasota for work but now just stays with me on the week days to save time and gas.

Eureca and Erza Battle’s Wedding Day

June 9, 2011 Leave a comment

Saturday 6/4/2011

I finally made a trip home after about three weeks of being away. ‘Twas nice being back home for the weekend but I was only there to shoot Ervin’s sister, Eureca’s, wedding. I’ve known Ervin and his family for 20 years! We moved in the same neighborhood at the same time when our houses were new. Also, Ervin helped me get an internship at Sun Hydraulics, which is pretty win.

I got back to Jacksonville late afternoon on Friday and had dinner with Ashley and the family. It was as if I had never left.

Eureca’s wedding festivities started late afternoon, but I went early to shoot the bride’s maids and the groom’s men, and also Eureca getting ready.

The wedding was on the roof of a hotel facing the river. It was a wonderful setting with the Jacksonville skyline in the background.

Here are a few pictures from the day. The pictures are linked to my Flickr account so if you click them, that’s where they’ll take you.

I love the intimacy of this photo and the way some of the guests frame the bride and her father. Both her and the groom were brought to tears by happiness. To be honest, I loved shooting this wedding and they made me feel like part of the family while I was there.

Here’s a beautiful view of the skyline:

After the ceremony we took just a few minutes to snap some pictures by the river:

“I Feel Like I Should Have Lasers” (Saturday EDC – long entry) [Awooga]

June 3, 2011 Leave a comment

The first day of any event like this is always a bit unorganized. The second, and last sadly, went much smoother. We all woke up around 10am thanks to the daylight being unbearable. Ashley, Patrick, and I decided to have brunch at Waffle House and load up on some calories for the day.

I didn’t care too much about being there early, the first act I wanted to see was Filo and Peri (a trance duo) who’s set time was 5:30.

“We Are The Survivors” (Friday EDC – long entry) [Feel It In My Bones]

I’m a bit sad I didn’t take as many pictures as I should have this EDC.

I drove by my self from Tampa to Orlando to meet up Andy, Danni, and Ashley. We spent a little time in the hotel getting ready and discussing who we would see. The “main stage”, aka: Kinetic Field, just seemed like a good place to be all day but I knew I would need a break from that. I wanted to see Metropolis, Porter Robinson, Skrillex, and a few others.

The weather forecast for the day said there was a chance that it would rain late afternoon/early night time. Even from our hotel room we could see rain in the distance but a little rain couldnt deter us from a music festival, so off we went.

Initially we were waiting on two of Andy’s friends that were going to pick us up from the hotel but we didn’t want to wait any longer so we called for a cab downstairs. While we were waiting, there was another guy, Patrick, who was waiting for two of his friends — he asked if he could split the taxi with us, so all five of us went together to the festival grounds.

Since Patrick was alone, he decided to stick around with our group. We arrived early-ish — about 5:30, and there was no one we really wanted to see in that time slot so we sat down on the Circuit Grounds field to watch DJ Dan. After DJ Dan, Metropolis was supposed to come on at 6:30pm. Metropolis was almost at the top of my list of to-see people but by 6:45 I was getting really discouraged; DJ Dan was still throwin down music and there were no signs of him stopping.

So we head over to watch Dirty South who starts putting on an awesome show as the dark clouds loom ever closer.
