Full Swing [You Got To Go]

October 2, 2011 Leave a comment

I didn’t mean to leave my blog idle for so long. It doesn’t seem as if much time has passed since my last entry that its hard to believe its October already. This semester is different from semesters passed in that my only obligation is school, as opposed to previous semesters where I would have to balance work and school and going out. I’m so close to graduating that I just decided to go all out. My goal this semester is to make all A’s and currently I’m realistically projecting I’ll make at least 3x A’s.

To help myself, I deactivated my Facebook. For the first week I really wanted to check it but now I’m over the withdrawl. I really like not having it. Even though I’m not as connected to everyone, the extra time that I would have spent on there is adding to my productivity.

Part (most?) of the stress from school is coming from my senior design class. Senior design is basically a huge 6 month project that tests all of your skills from previous engineering classes and forces you to become well rounded. I guess you could say I’m enjoying rising up to the challenge. My group’s senior design mechanical engineering project is a joint project with civil engineers. Our team is in charge of designing the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air condition) and plumbing systems for the building. It’s so much more work than it sounds like.

This semester hasn’t been without its highlights though. I saw Tiesto and Porter Robinson on Sept 27th in Tallahassee. The show was awesome. Tiesto dropped some of his (I’m assuming) new unreleased tracks which brought down the house. In related news, I BOUGHT MY TICKETS FOR ULTRA #14 (MARCH, 2012)!! Although expensive, It was the same amount I paid last year for the general admission tickets for three days. Just another incentive to get through this semester!

Happy Birthday! (How to: Cupcakes)

It is a happy birthday indeed. I got what I really wanted for my birthday and that was an internship at a company in Sarasota. Thanks to my childhood friend, Ervin, for referring me.

Nothing much has been happening lately. Certainly a lazy start to summer. I passed all my classes this past semester so I’m happy about that.

I’ve been passing the time playing Portal, Half Life 2 (episode one and two), just on and off. I really want to buy Portal 2. Looks like I’ll be able to do it soon with this job 😀

[Saturday 4/30/11]

Made red velvet cupcakes.  They were so awesome.. Of course I took pics.
In case you didn’t know how to make cupcakes well here are some instructions:

You’ll need:

  • a big bowl
  • 2 eggs (uncooked)
  • vegetable oil
  • cupcake baking pan
  • paper cups for the cupcakes
  • frosting
  • friends to enjoy with

pour the mix into a bowl:

Finishing Touches [ATRC]

March 24, 2011 1 comment

So my last entry was about so much happening. Finally, on the eve of Ultra, I can somewhat relax and look forward to the weekend. I successfully sold the truck — which btw, craigslist is FTW.

My Transport Phenomena test which was on Monday, the day after ultra — AKA recovery day, was moved to Tuesday or later in the week. My Thermodynamics test is probably going to be on Wednesday and Friday. I think I’m set.

All that’s left for me to do now is pack. I’m bringing my 7D and my parent’s little point and shoot camera. My goal for this weekend is to try and document EVERYTHING. When I have free time after the semester ends, I’ll put together an album of my whole trip and have some blank pages for people to sign — kind of like a year book.

In other news, I got my new camera on this past Wednesday. It’s a Canon 5D. To be totally honest, I was expecting something along the lines of the image quality I got from my 40D (which is a newer body). I’m pleasantly surprised to say the least. Something about the FF (full frame) perspective is amazing and it brings out the quality in my L lenses. Here are a few pics I’ve taken since I got it.

Love Shines Through

Man, feels like I’ve been putting off updating my blog forever. Now that finals are done I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I recently went out and bought Halo ODST (because it was super cheaper than Black Ops and Halo Reach) and Inception just to kill a little time over the holidays. My dad bought my mom the Xbox Kinect, so that has been fun playing with. While you’re playing, it takes pictures of you doing the wackyest things. When I figure out how to get them off the hard drive i’ll upload a couple.

On A Good Day

Today was a pretty normal day consisting of my normal routine being school, work, home. It felt as if everyone was reluctant to return back to school after an extended weekend due to Thanksgiving.

Engineers Save The World (perpetually)

warning: nerdy opening
For a project in my renewable energy sources class, my team and I built a gasifier. Not to bore with technical details; in short, burns biomass (wood/etc) in an oxygen depleted environment to produce synthetic gas or “syngas” which can be used to cook, run engines (generator, car engines etc). Specifically we built a wood gasifying stove, which gasifies…wood, and uses the gas to make heat to cook stuff. It’s a fairly simple design consisting of 2 coffee cans with holes drilled in them. Looking at the finished product, it doesn’t look like much — it doesn’t even look like it does anything.
